Rasht/ Mother of Gilan/ The city of silver rain/ The city of clay roofs/ The city of various foods

Rasht is the largest and most populous city of the north of Iran. It is the capital city of Gilan Province and the majority of Gilaks live there. Rasht is the third most visited city of Iran. People of Rasht speak different dialects of Gilaki language.

Geographically from the north the city leads to the Caspian sea and Anzali Lagoon, from the west it leads to  Pasikhan  river and Fuman, from the south it leads to Sangar and Rudbar, and from the east it leads to Astaneh-ye Ashrafiyeh and Kuchesfahan. Most of a year Rasht is rainy, especially in Mehr and Aban mounths ( October and November) and the city is called “ City of Rain “. In general, Rasht has a damp, rainy climate. The other thing that distinguishes Rasht from the other cities of Iran is it’s food diversity. The city is famous because of various kinds of foods that are cooked there.

Where to stay in Rasht?

There are many hotels in Rasht that you can choose for staying. Kadus hotel is the most luxurious, expensive five star hotel of Rasht located in Azadi Boulevard. Shabestan international hotel in Golsar Boulevard, and Pamchal hotel in Mosalla square are good but less expensive hotels of the city. You can also rent a house for staying in Rasht. The city has other good hotels such as: Sabouri, Kenareh, Keyvan, Park, Narges, Sadaf, Salar, Bahar, Ordibehesht, Khaneye Pedar Bozorg, Ghadir, Behesht-e Gilan, Fars, Karavan, Sedaghat and Iran.

As it was mentioned before Rasht is known because of different kinds of foods that are cooked in the city, so you shouldn’t forget to try the delicious foods of the city. Chicken Fesenjan, Mirza Ghassemi, Baghala Ghatogh, Torsh Tareh, Anarbich, Vavishka, and Kebab-e Torsh are the most popular foods of Rasht. Since Grenadine, and fragrant vegetables are the main ingredients of thoes foods, most of them have sour taste. You can try all those delicious foods in Shoore Kooli local restaurant that is the best and most famous restaurant of Rasht. The city has other good restaurants such as: Hasan Rashti Kababi, Moharam, Ardeshir, Babak, Mahmoud, Haft Soor,and Ghale. If you are interested in eating fast food and Pastas, Douni and Paradise restaurants can be good choices for you.

Beverages ( Soft Drinks)

In fact Rasht does not have any special drink but it as a kind of ice cream that is made with  Cornelia cherry and Heracleum Persicum and it is very delicious. We recommend you to try it. There are some cafes in Rasht that best of them are Paeiz cafe, Duke cafe gallery, Diroozemrooz cafe, and Sib cafe.

What do we buy from Rasht?

Rasht like other cities has its own souvenirs such as: Reshte Khoshkar, Cookies, Olive, Rice bread, Processed Olive, Caspian White fish, and different kinds of Torshi ( Tursu). Various kinds of handicrafts are other souvenirs of the city, for example: Minakari, Kilim, Mat, carved woods, Miniature paintings ( illuminated manuscripts), Moaragh, silk crochet, traditional jewellery, Makrumeh and handmade dolls. You can buy all of them from Rasht ‘s Bazaar. In order to buy fish and other delicious souvenirs of the city you should go Rasht Fish Market. Golsar shopping center and shops that are located in Golsar street, and Dilema Boulevard are also good places for shopping in Rasht.

Rasht is one if the mega cities of Iran and it has a lot of attractive places to visit like: Gilan Rural Heritage Museum that is the real symbol of traditional life of villages of Gilan, Saravan park, Eynak wetland that is look like a eyeglasses in Aerial photos, Bujagh international wtland which is the best place for bird watching, Mohtasham garden, Kolah Farangi mansion, Rasht Ganjineh ( treasure) museum, Saghalaksar river, Mellat park, Lat Caravansary, Mirza Kuchak Khan’s house, and Ghadiri historical house.
