🏜️ 7-Day Iran Desert Tour

Route: Tehran → Kashan → Maranjab → Mesr → Garmeh → Yazd → Bafgh

🔶 Day 1: Arrival in Tehran – Transfer to Kashan

  • Upon arrival at Imam Khomeini Airport (IKA), a private transfer takes you to the historical city of Kashan (approx. 3 hrs).

  • Visit Fin Garden, a UNESCO-registered Persian garden with Safavid and Qajar elements.

  • Explore the Tabatabaei and Boroujerdi traditional houses, showcasing 19th-century desert architecture with windcatchers and stucco work.

  • Walk through Kashan Bazaar, an old trade hub still vibrant with copper, spice, and carpet shops.

  • Overnight in a restored traditional guesthouse.

Tip: Kashan is located on the edge of the central desert, making it the perfect starting point for desert tours.


🔶 Day 2: Kashan – Maranjab Desert Adventure

  • Optional morning stop at Abyaneh, a stepped red-mud village with preserved Zoroastrian customs.

  • Drive to the Maranjab Desert, located near Aran va Bidgol, known for its golden sand dunes and the vast Salt Lake (Daryache Namak).

  • Visit the Maranjab Caravanserai, a restored 17th-century roadside inn from the Silk Road era.

  • Enjoy activities like:

    • Camel riding

    • Walking across the salt lake

    • Sunset photography among dunes

  • Traditional dinner under the stars.

  • Overnight in a caravanserai or desert camp.


🔶 Day 3: Maranjab – Mesr Desert

  • Depart for Mesr Desert (approx. 5–6 hrs), deeper in the heart of Dasht-e Kavir, Iran’s central desert.

  • Short stop in Na’in to see the Jameh Mosque and handwoven Aba fabric workshops (optional).

  • Arrival at Mesr, a famous desert village with tall, soft sand dunes.

  • Activities:

    • 4x4 desert drive

    • Hiking up the dunes

    • Photography of shadow-play on sand

  • Walk to Farahzad village, a peaceful spot at the edge of the desert.

  • Overnight in a local eco-lodge with desert-style dinner.

Local Experience: Try ash-e shooli or date-based meals typical of desert villages.


🔶 Day 4: Mesr – Garmeh Oasis

  • Short transfer to Garmeh, an oasis village surrounded by palm trees and ancient springs.

  • Visit the natural hot spring, perfect for a foot soak.

  • Meet with local artists and musicians. Garmeh is known for its peaceful atmosphere and hospitality.

  • Optional hike in the surrounding hills for a panoramic view of the oasis.

  • Learn about the qanat system, the ancient underground irrigation canals still used in the desert.

  • Overnight in a traditional house built of sun-dried mudbrick.


🔶 Day 5: Garmeh – Yazd via Kharanagh & Chak Chak

  • Depart Garmeh and drive toward Yazd, one of the oldest adobe cities in the world.

  • En route stops:

    • Kharanagh Village: see the shaking minaret and ancient residential quarters.

    • Chak Chak, Iran’s most sacred Zoroastrian pilgrimage site, nestled in the cliffs.

  • Arrive in Yazd and begin exploring:

    • Amir Chakhmaq Square

    • Zoroastrian Fire Temple

    • Traditional windcatchers and mud-brick alleys

  • Overnight in a boutique hotel in the old town.

UNESCO World Heritage Tip: Yazd is a registered world heritage site for its unique desert-adapted architecture and Zoroastrian heritage.


🔶 Day 6: Yazd – Bafgh Desert Escape

  • Morning visits to:

    • Dolat Abad Garden, home to the tallest traditional badgir (windcatcher)

    • Tower of Silence, an ancient sky burial site

  • Afternoon drive to Bafgh Desert, a less touristy region with pristine dunes.

  • Activities:

    • Sandboarding

    • Desert trekking

    • Sunset picnic on dunes

  • Optional overnight in desert tents or ecolodges run by local families.


🔶 Day 7: Return to Yazd – Departure or Next Destination

  • Return to Yazd.

  • Transfer to the airport for a domestic flight or to the train station for travel back to Tehran or onward to Shiraz, Kerman, or Isfahan.
