Jameh Mosque
Jameh Mosque is located at the North West side of the old square. The initial mosque was located near Yavan, which is an old village and the mosque was probably constructed over a monument built before Islam.
In 24 AH, Isfahan accepted Islam as its religion and thus the first mosque was built at the current location however smaller in size, in 156 AH. In the 3rd century a bigger mosque was built over the initial one because the city had spread and so did the number of people living in the city. The architecture of the mosque was in Razi Style, which is a construction method using bricks and brick façade.
The molding design of the sanctuary, the beautiful tile works, the eye catching inscriptions are the proof of Isfahani artists' hard work and interest in building a stunning mosque. This mosque is the true proof of the valuable historical, cultural, architectural and artistic designs of the past.
