Zahedan/ the old city 

Zahedan is a megacity of Iran and capital of Sistan and Baluchestan province. In the past the city known as “ Duzdab” and then it was renamed by Reza Shah Pahlavi. The word of Zahedan means “ pious people “. Geographically, from the north the city leads to Zabol county, from the south it leads to Khash county,from he east to Afghanistan and Pakistan countries and from the west to Fahraj county and Lut desert. Zahedan has warm climate with hot days in summer. Since Zahedan is a border city, it has special commercial and military position. Some people believe that Zahedan university is the most beautiful university of Iran.

There are many good hotels at affordable prices in Zahedan such as: Kavir, Amin, Esteghlal, Hamoun, Jahangardi, Imam Reza and Khavar.

Trying local foods of a city is the best part of a trip. Date palm is the main ingredient of local foods in Zahedan and “ Changal” which is the most popular food of the city is made with this delicious sweet fruit. Baloch people of Zahedan have their own local foods that are made with mutton and served with Doogh. In addition to Date palm, spices are other important ingredients of Zahedan’ foods. Ojizak and Tanuri are other famous foods of the city. There are a lot of good restaurants in the city that you can go and try Iranian traditional foods. The best restaurants of Zahedan are Esteghlal, Azarbayejan, Reyhan, Setare Baluchestan, Valiasr, Ghasr-e Talaei, Laleh and Beheshti. If you are interested in eating fast food you can go Seven Star and Blue Star Pizza restaurants. 

Beverages ( Soft Drinks)

There are some good cafes in Zahedan where you can go and try cold drinks that are so desirable in the warm weather of the city. For example: Plus cafe, Fenjoon cafe, Biacuit cafe and Zemestoon cafe. 

What do we buy from Zahedan?

Although people of Zahedan believe that their city has no special souvenirs, Suzani ( textile) of Zahedan is very famous in the world. Palm cookie is also a delicious souvenir of Zahedan that is produced at Razavi Bread Company. You can buy the souvenirs of the city from Rasouli market.

Zahedan like other cities of Iran has many attractive places to visit such as: Kalateh Razagh Zadeh, Post and Telecommunications museum of Zahedan, Abouei house, Old building of Zahedan’ customs, Nosratabad Carvanserai, Makki mosque, and Great museum of Zahedan.
