Tabas/Garden of Iran’s desert 

Tabas is a capital city of Tabas county in South Khorasan province. Formerly the city was a part of Yazd province and since 2012 it has been attached to South Khorasan province. Although the city is located on the border of desert, it is full of trees and it is known as the garden of Iran ‘s desert. Since Tabas is far from productive cities and also the difficulty of traveling in desert ways, perishable products cannot be imported to the city. So, the people of Tabas produce fruits and vegetables in their own city.

Unperishable products like wheat and cereal are the export products of the city. There are also some rice fields around Tabas. Tabas is one of the most important tourist cities of Iran due to its unique tourist attractions. Tabas county is 3000 years old and it is very similar to Razavi Khorasan province in terms of culture and dialect. The ancestors of the people of Tabas were cattlemen and they lived near springs. Some remains of them are still available. In 1978 the city was completely destroyed in the earthquake and then in was reconstructed. Tabas is a city in the heart of desert with very beautiful natural attractions that is visited by many tourists especially in Spring and Autumn. 

Where to stay in Tabas?

 You can stay at good hotels of Tabas during your trip to the city. Amir and Narenjestan hotels are suitable choices at affordable prices. If you like to stay at historical places, Bahman hotel is the best choice for you, it is a traditional place with beautiful facade and many Palm trees. Hotel of Tabas’ governorate is also a good place with lower price. In Tabas you can also stay at traditional guest houses in different villages of the county where delicious local foods are served.

What to eat? Where to eat?

Despite other cities of Iran local foods of Tabas are not commonly known. Gormast, Tagi, Mehrabademjoon, Khoresh-e Zardak, and Reshteh Polo are the local foods of Tabas. There are many good restaurants in the city that Bagh-e Majnoon and Khatam are the most popular ones. The other restaurants of the city are: hezar o Yek Shab, Nikzad, Tak Pokht, Nana Pooneh and Mehr. If you are interested in eating fast food you can go Pizza Touka, Seven Star and Pasargad restaurants.

If you like to spend your time with your friends and try cold drinks, you can go Vanak coffee shop in Tabas.

What do we buy from Tabas?

Handicrafts like copper containers, Toreutics metals, carpet and mat are the souvenirs of Tabas that you can buy them from Coppersmiths Bazaar. Pistachio, Orange Blossom, Caraway, Honey, Descurainia Sophia and different kinds of fruit preserves are also the delicious souvenirs of Tabas. Razavi Heidari mall is a good place for shopping in the city. 

Health and Care 

Unexpected events and diseases are inevitable during a trip, so you need a piece of information about the health services of the city that you want to travel. There is only one hospital in Tabas which name is “Shahid Seyed Mostafa Khomeini” that has general surgery, Orthopedic, Otorhinolarnology, Urology, Eye, Opthalmology, Pediatrics, Internal medicine, Infectious diseases, Cardiology, Psychiatry, CCU, ICU, and NICU departments. Daralshafa boarding clinic and Tabas Health Center are also ready to serve patients. “ Dr. Malek” and “Dr. Akhavan” are the pharmacies of the city. 

Where to go and visit in Tabas?

Tabas is a great desert city with a lot of attractive places to visit such as: Shah Abbasi dam which is the oldest and biggest arch dam of the world, Kal Jenni valley which is an amazing valley and some people believe that it was the home of Jinn and ghosts , Historical Citadel of Tabas, Morteza Ali spring that has both hot and cold water, Dig Rostam hot water spring, Golshan garden, Salt river, Nayband village that is like Masuleh( a town in the north of Iran), the village is a heaven in the heart of desert, and Azmighan village which is one of the most beautiful desert villages of Iran.
