Shahroud is the most beautiful and largest city of Semnan province that is located in the northern border of Dasht-e Kavir (Salt desert) and the southern foothills of Alborz mountain range. Some people believe that the name of the city has been taken from the river adjacent to it, and some others think that its name has been taken from the word “ Shakhareh” which means firm. In terms of climate the city is divided into northern and southern parts.

The southern part of the city has desert,dry climate but the northern part of it has humid climate with high rainfall and many trees. The streets of Shahroud are full of huge Plane trees. Autumn is the best season for traveling to the city where you can enjoy both desert and forest beside each other.

The city also has historical attractions like ancient Flint hills that are about 9000 years old, Bedasht caravanserai, Abbasabad caravanserai, Sheikh Ali Akbar mosque, Abul Hassan Kharaqani’s shrine, and historical Bazaar of Shahroud.
